Error description

  • Error Message: When trying to launch Java using JNI_CreateJavaVM
on AIX the process hangs in an infinite loop.
    .
    Stack Trace: N/A
    .

Local fix

  • EITHER:
    1) Copy /<jre>/lib/<arch>/j9vm/libjvm.so to
    /<jre>/lib/<arch>/j9vm/libjvm.a
    OR
    2) Set LIBPATH=/<jre>/lib/<arch>/classic
Where <jre> is the path to the JRE install location, and <arch>
is ppc or ppc64 depending on architecture.

Problem summary

  • The problem occurs when AIX returns the symbolically linked
libjvm.a (which the application was compiled against) when the
    JVM requests libjvm.so

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    6.0.0 SR12
    6.0.1 SR4
    7.0.0 SR3
    .
The JVM has been updated to mark when it has requested libjvm.so
and will no longer enter an infinite loop.
