IV26866: NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION WHILE LAUNCHING WEBSTART APPLICATION VIA IB M 7.0 WEBSTART USING ORACLE 6.0 JRE
Closed as program error.
Error Message: Customer use to get NullPointerException while launching a WebStart Application via IBM 7.0 Webstart using Oracle 6.0 JRE. . Stack Trace: java.lang.NullPointerException at com.sun.deploy.services.WPlatformService.getSecureRandom(Unknown Source) at com.sun.deploy.cache.Cache.getSecureRandom(Unknown Source) at com.sun.deploy.cache.Cache.getRandom(Unknown Source) at com.sun.deploy.cache.Cache$19.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(AccessController.jav a:251) . The reported issue occurs only in the case when two Java vendors involved in the execution of WebStart application. This scenario can be acheived by adding one Vendors JRE in other Vendors Java Control Panel and use that JRE to run the Webstart application, for eg. adding Oracle JRE in IBM Java Control Panel.
The security providers will be specific to Java Vendors and if there is a combination of Java Vendors involved in launching a WebStart application then Security.getProvider API will return null. As JDK is not taking care of null, it use to end up with NullPointerException.
This defect will be fixed in: 7.0.0 SR3 . The JVM has been updated to take care of null return by Security.getProvider API when when two Java vendors are involved in the execution of WebStart application.
