Error description

  • Product: Tivoli Network Manager IP Edition
    Version: 3.9
    Component: Root Cause Analysis

    Symptom:
Isolated-Suppression fails to suppress events from the chassis
when the graph though the network terminates on an interface
    with the same IP.

In the user case, the interface that is used to identify the
chassis is contained within an VLAN. Although the VLAN is
subsequently contained within the chassis, it is also isolated
within the chassis because the chassis device is not an
IP-FORWARDING device. So although connectivity extends from the
interface to the VLAN, the path is not continuous up to the
    chassis entity.

Therefore when RCA encounters events from the Chassis entity, it
fails to complete a continuous path from the polling station all
the way to the chassis and does not mark the event as a symptom.

    Action:
    1. Modify the Discovery stitcher code so that the interface
is upwardly connected to the VLAN.

    2. Modify the RCA code so that when the Isolated-Suppression
algorithm encounters an interface on the path that has the same
IP address as the chassis, it looks for events on the chassis
too and suppresses any events it finds on the chassis.

Problem conclusion

  • Modify the Discovery stitcher code to allow the non-ipForwarding
IP interface be upwardly connected to the VLAN Object.
