Error description

  • PRODUCT: Tivoli Business Service Manager (TBSM)
    Release: 6.1
    problem:

    some TBSM tables have the NOT LOGGED INITIALLY
    attribute.
    Which leaves these tables to possibly be a problem.
    By using that option the tables are not logged until the
    next commit.
    Once the next commit happens they are logged again. BUT that
    is enough to break HADR for those tables. In the case of a
    failover to the Standby we will not be able to access those
    tables until they are dropped and recreated.
    (appears to be only toolkit tables at risk).

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * TBSM XMLToolkit used ALTER TABLE with NOT LOGGED INITIALLY *
    * statements to clear tables. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * The ideal command to use is TRUNCATE but that is only *
    * available in DB2 9.7. TBSM also supports DB2 9.5. The        *
    * solution is to query the DB2 version - if 9.7 use TRUNCATE *
    * instead. If 9.5, check for HADR - if not set, then use NOT *
    * INITIALLY LOGGED. If set, use DELETE statement. *
    ****************************************************************
    ALTER TABLE with NOT LOGGED INITIALLY is not good practice in a
    HADR DB2 environment. In the case of a failover to Standby
    tables affected by this command would not be accessible.
