Error description

  • Error Message: N/A
    .
    Stack Trace: N/A
    .
When file encoding is specified as ASCII, the default console
encoding used by java.io.Console class for console read and
write operations is incorrect on zOS. The console encoding is
not honoured even when the console encoding is explicitly
    specified using system property -Dconsole.encoding.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • java.io.Console class uses "file.encoding" value for read and
write operations from/to console. Console output on zOS becomes
garbled when "file.encoding" differs from platform's console
    encoding.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    6.0.1 SR3
    6.0.0 SR11
    7.0.0 SR3
    .
The JVM Console class is updated:
1)To use platform's default encoding in case console encoding is
    not set.
2)To honor the system property -Dconsole.encoding when it is
    specified.
