Error description

  • Error Message: The Webstart Application jars use to get
downloaded from server instead of using cache for every launch
of the application even though the Application jars have being
    not modified.
    .
    Stack Trace: N/A
    .
For a Webstart Application, if user specify
    -Djava.protocol.handler.pkgs=sun.net.www.protocol" command line
property, Webstart use to ignore the Cache and download the
application jars every time from server to launch the
application. This incorrect behaviour of Webstart can be
detected by the usage of network traffic monitor tools like
WireShark during a Java Web Start application launch.

Local fix

  • N/A

Problem summary

  • The problem occurred as the cache handler instance which is
responsible for loading the application jars from cache was not
set while using "sun.net.www.protocol" protocol handler.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    6.0.0 SR11
    6.0.1 SR3
    .
The JVM has been updated to initialize the cache handler
instance when "sun.net.www.protocol" protocol handler is used.
