Error description

  • Error Message: j9shr.1009 * ** ASSERTION FAILED ** at
    ClasspathItem.cpp:189: ((0 ))
    .
    Stack Trace: N/A
    .

Local fix

  • This issue can be worked around by not extending the
bootclasspath, or disabling the shared class cache using
    -Xshareclasses:none.

Problem summary

  • When the bootclasspath is extended more than once using
    java.lang.instrument.appendToBootstrapClassLoaderSearch(), or
the JVMTI API AddToBootstrapClassLoaderSearch(), in rare cases
this could cause an assertion when running the JVM with the
shared cache enabled. The -Xshareclasses option controls the
    behavior of the shared cache.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    7.0.0 SR1
    6.0.1 SR2
    6.0.0 SR11
    .
The JVM has been updated to prevent the assertion from occurring
when extending the bootclasspath more than once.

Temporary fix
