Error description

  • Remove non-essential supporting objects from promotion graph.

Local fix

  • Not applicable.

Problem summary

  • Changes introduced in APAR IZ96857 can significantly increase
the number of objects that get promoted. This can lead to slow
promotions and unexpected objects being promoted.

Problem conclusion

  • A new promotion type was added, sync-optimized-minimal. This
promotion type allows the promotion graph to be limited to just
direct and indirect supporting objects of the transitioned
governed collection. Sometimes this means that a supporting
object which is governed on the source registry will appear on
the target outside of its governed collection. In this situation
the promoted object is marked on the target registry being part
of a governed collection on the source. This marker prevents
that object from being governed and prevents it being included
in other governed collections when a relationship is created
from a governed object to the marked object. The existence of a
marked object in the target registry does not prevent the
governed collection containing that object being promoted at a
later time. If this happens the marked object is simply updated
and becomes governed as it was on the source registry.

This fix is expected to be available in v7.0.0.5, v7.5.0.3 and
    v8.0.0.1
