Error description

  • Error Message: Unhandled exception
    Type=Segmentation error vmState=0x00000000
    J9Generic_Signal_Number=00000004 Signal_Number=0000000b
    Error_Value=00000000 Signal_Code=00000001

    Stack Trace:
    .

Local fix

  • This issue is exposed by the loop versioner optimization and it
    can be worked around using the -Xjit:disableLoopVersioner
    option. That may cause slight performance degradation.

Problem summary

  • This issue may happen only if a hot loop is inlined in a
    try-catch block. In some cases, this leads to a NULL pointer
    access in the jitted code.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    6.0.0 SR10
    5.0.0 SR13
    6.0.1 SR2
    7.0.0 SR1
    .
    The JIT optimizer has been fixed to avoid the NULL pointer
    access in the jitted code.

Temporary fix
