Local fix

  • Destroy the existing shared class cache using:
    -Xshareclasses:destroy option.
Another workaround (but not encouraged) is not to use
    -Xshareclassses option.

Problem summary

  • The problem occurs when the JVM detects the string table in the
shared cache needs to be reset. This can occur when one JVM
using the shared cache exits unexpectedly when loading a class,
perhaps due to terminating the JVM with CTRL+C. The read-only
protections on the cache are not removed before trying to reset
the string table, resulting in a memory fault.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect will be fixed in:
    6.0.1 GA FP1
    .
Code has been fixed to properly unprotect/protect the shared
    cache.
    .
    To obtain the fix:
    Install build 20110222 or later

Temporary fix
