• If the NodeList.getLength() method is called first before item()
  then this will work around the problem.
  

Problem summary

• For a NodeList passed to a Java extension function, the item()
  method may return null for the last item in the list instead of
  returning the item.

• This defect will be fixed in:
  5.0.0 SR12 FP5

  The problem was fixed so that the item() method works properly
  for the last item in a NodeList passed to a Java extension
  function.
