APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • After a firmware upgrade the following errors were reported for
    interfaces
that belong to a link aggregation interface.

The link on interface 'eth22' went down outside of an
    administrator initiated change window.
    	...[network][error]

The appliances are no longer replying to LLDP request causing
the switch interfaces to go in error-disable mode. After
    disabling
LLDP on those impacted interfaces on switch side brought the
    situation back to normal.

Local fix

  • Disable LLDP on the switch side for the affected interfaces.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
MQ appliance users with Link Aggregation Interface(s) configured
using 10 GB Ethernet ports and upgrading to MQ version 9.1.0.6
or 9.2.0.0 or a firmware version which contains the fix for the
    APAR IT32866.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
The 10 GB network card in the appliance has an integrated LLDP
Engine. which processes LLDP frames and
hence does not forward them to the operating system. However the
appliance operating system requires the LLDP
information when LCAP is configured. The APAR IT32866 upgrades
NVM firmware for 10GB Ethernet. The new firmware enabled the
LLDP agent on the 10 GB Network card by default and because of
that LLDP frames were not forwarded to the OS, causing in
    failures in Link Aggregation.

Problem conclusion

  • ** Please note that following the inclusion of this APAR in the
MQ 9.2.0.2 release, the property name was changed for
consistency with other IBM appliance products and versions. The
change of property name in the 9.2 release is documented under
IT33213. The text below is also updated accordingly to describe
    the version differences. **

The IBM MQ Appliance code has been modified to provide an option
to disable/enable LLDP hardware offload on the 10 GB network
cards. If the connected network switch is LLDP-enabled and the
interface is used in a link aggregation, then LLDP hardware
offload should be disabled on the 10GB interface(s) as described
    below:

IBM MQ Appliance 9.2.0.2 firmware only:
      On CLI   - link-layer-discovery-protocol (from config;
    ethernet [interface])
On WebUI - Link Layer Discovery Protocol (from the interface
    settings page)

    IBM MQ Appliance 9.1.0.8 / 9.2.0.3 / 9.2.3 and later firmwares:
On CLI - lldp-hardware-offload (from config; ethernet
    [interface])
On WebUI - Offload LLDP to hardware (from the interface
    settings page)
