IT24995: SERVER CAN CRASH WHEN RESTORING DATA FROM A CLOUD CONTAINER AND ENCRYPTION ENABLED

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The IBM Spectrum Protect server can crash when trying to
    restore data from a cloud container with encryption enabled.
      This occurs due to client compression being enabled during
      the backup. The compression can cause the extent size to be
      larger than what was planned for at the time of the restore.
      During the restore, the I/O buffer is not large enough to
      accommodate the size of the extent and causes the server to
      crash.
    
    Spectrum Protect and Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected:
      Servers 7.1.7 and higher, 8.1.0 and higher

      The following call stack is seen in the core file:

      To determine the extents that are impacted during the restore
      the following SQL:
    
        db2 connect to tsmdb1
        db2 set schema tsmdb1
        db2 "select poolname, poolid from ss_pools"
        db2 "select count from sd_all_chunks where length>4096000
              and poolid=<cloud pool id> and bitand(flags, 8)=8"
    
        NOTE: Use the first select to get the <cloud pool id> for
        the second select.
