Error description

  • If the mqipt.conf file is saved in UTF-8 encoding, MQ IPT fails
to start with the following error message:

    MQCPE017 The exception java.io.IOException: MQCPE019 The stanza
    [global] was not
found before the following : ï[Uxbb][Uxbf]

The MQ IPT service also fails to start.
This can happen after editing the mqipt.conf file on some
platforms, such as Windows 2012, where text editors may save the
    file in UTF-8 by default.

Local fix

  • Save the mqipt.conf file in ASCII encoding.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
This issue affects all users of IBM MQ Internet Passthru (MQ
    IPT) version 2.1.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Some text editors on certain platforms, such as Notepad in
Windows 2012, save a file in UTF-8 by default, with the first
bytes of the file being the Unicode Byte Order Mark (BOM).

MQ IPT assumed that the mqipt.conf is in the system default
encoding, and did not expect the first bytes of the file to
contain the BOM. If the mqipt.conf file was in UTF-8 encoding,
the presence of the BOM caused MQIPT to report an error and fail
to start as the configuration file did not start with the
    [global] stanza.

Problem conclusion

  • MQ IPT has been updated to check for the presence of the BOM at
the start of the mqipt.conf file, and correctly process the
configuration file in UTF-8 encoding if it is present.
