APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If a SOAP meesage is received without any body then a
    nullPointerException is thrown. This is because we assume that
    all SOAP messages received comply with the SOAP specification.
    Instead we should be throwing an exception that highlights that
    an invalid SOAP struture has been recieved.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

    USERS AFFECTED:
    All users of IBM Integration Bus using the SOAPInput node.
    
    
    Platforms affected:
    z/OS, MultiPlatform
    
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    All SOAP request messages should have a Body included as part of
    the message.
    
    If a SOAP request message was sent to IBM Integration Bus
    without a body as part of the message, any flow processing the
    SOAP request message using a SOAPInput node will fail to parse
    the received message.
    
    However, no error or fault was passed back to the sending
    application, resulting in the sending application having to wait
    for a timeout before continuing.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The SOAPInput node still fails to parse the received SOAP
    request message, as this is not a valid SOAP message.
    The SOAPNode has been modified so that it now returns a SOAP
    Fault back to the sending application. This allows the sending
    application to handle the error and carry on without waiting for
    a timeout.
