IT20623: 'RESTORE VM' COMPLETES SUCCESSFULLY BUT THE RESTORED GUEST HAS NO NETWORK INTERFACE

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The 'RESTORE VM' of a VMware guest can complete without error
    and create a guest that has no network card while the original
    guest did have one.
    This will be observed when the original VMware guest has a
    virtual Distributed Switch (vDS) configuration and the target
    ESXi host to which the guest is restored has no assigned vDS
    configuration.
    
    Products affected:
    IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments: Data Protection
    for VMware version 8.1.0 on Linux and Windows
    
    This problem also affects IBM Spectrum Protect Backup-Archive
    Client which is the data mover for Data Protection for
    VMware 7.1.2, 7.1.3, 7.1.4, 7.1.6.
    If you are using Data Protection for VMware
    7.1.2, 7.1.3, 7.1.4, 7.1.6 refer to APAR IT20449.

Local fix

  • For data mover clients 7.1.2 or higher, consider the use of the
    following client options to restore the guest with a network
    card configuration : VMDEFAULTDVPORTGROUP, VMDEFAULTDVSWITCH
    and VMDEFAULTNETWORK
    For earlier data mover clients, edit the restored guest to add
    the needed network configuration.
