Error description

  • "Backup VM" operations following the successful restore of any
VM in the same datacenter using IBM Spectrum Protect Snapshot
    for VMware might fail.

Following messages will be seen during backup:

ERROR FMM9300E Additional support information: Aborting 'send'
      operation. See previous error.
ERROR FMM1255E The process cannot continue. Reverting changes.
WARNING FMM1554W The agent 'acsgen V. 4.1.6.0' terminated with
      exit code 2.
WARNING FMM1576W The backup <backup id> is skipped from
expiration processing because it is mounted.
ERROR FMM1579E Failed to find a suitable target set for device
      class <device class>.
ERROR FMM9223E The operation will be aborted.

The backup fails because the restore process failed to unmount
the backup image from which the restore was done. This causes no
valid target set to be available.

      leaving ESD_Exception

The trace shows that the unmount fails because it can not get
the requested data from ESXi host-xxxxxx.
This can happen if the ESXi host is e.g. in a disconnected
    state.

    Initial Impact: Medium

Additional Keywords: TSM, FCM, flashcopy, manager

Local fix

  • There are two possible scenario's:
    1. Before restoring, make sure that all ESXi hosts are
connected. Remove any disconnected ESXi hosts from the
datacenter to avoid problems with unmounting.
    2. After restoring, a manual detach is required.
