Error description

  • While trying to install IBM MQ Continuous delivery release 9.0.1
    Server, the installation seems to hang while unzipping the Web
    Administration feature. Unzipping of Web Administration feature
    takes a long time and Windows error appear "PowerShell no longer
    working". Trying to issue the commands like strmqweb (start
    mqweb server), dspmqweb (display mqweb server status) failed as
    well.

Local fix

  • Customer to use modified powershell script (UnpackFeature.ps1)
    to manually unzip the web administration. Contact Support to get
    the modified powershell script.

    1. Place UnpackFeature.ps1 (after backing the old one) script
    in<InstallDir>\zips folder
    2. Delete everything under <INSTALLDIR>\web and issue the
    following command
    "<INSTALLDIR>\zips\UnpackFeature.cmd" ..\web mq_wlp.zip
    3. Add the following 2 lines to <INSTALLDIR>\web\etc\server.env
    file after manually unzipping

    JAVA_HOME=<INSTALLDIR>\java\jre
    WLP_USER_DIR=<DATAPATH\web\installations\<INSTALLATIONNAME>

    Eg:
    JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ_1\java\jre
    WLP_USER_DIR=C:\ProgramData\IBM\MQ\web\installations\Installatio
    n2

    Provided MQ InstallDir is C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ_1
    and MQ DataPath is C:\ProgramData\IBM\MQ.

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    The IBM MQ 9.0.x Continuous Delivery Release installer uses
    PowerShell to expand some components. The manner in which this
    was done had the potential to exhaust the available memory on
    the system, causing the MQ installer and the PowerShell process
    to hang.

Problem conclusion

  • The PowerShell script used by the MQ 9.0.x Continuous Delivery
    Release installer has been updated to extract these components
    using a less resource-intensive mechanism.
