Error description
5.2.x web-based GUI performance is observed to slow down the longer the web server process runs. All panels/views are impacted. This has been traced back to the statements which update the "relationship" tables including: T_RELATIONSHIP_MDISK, T_RES_STORAGE_EXTENT, among others. The problem is most pronounced in environments with a high number of MDisks. This excessive number of MDisks results in millions of rows being selected in certain queries and with multiple probes/updates going on at the same time, and these result in a locklist issue for DB2 where they end up escalating locks to X locks. The following db2diag.log messaging is evidence of this problem: 2016-08-05-20.28.15.225000+000 E543777549F767 LEVEL: Warning PID : 4336 TID : 5856 PROC : db2syscs.exe INSTANCE: DB2 NODE : 000 DB : TPCDB APPHDL : 0-13 APPID: *LOCAL.DB2.160720161548 AUTHID : DB2ADMIN HOSTNAME: usstlecpinfap25 EDUID : 5856 EDUNAME: db2stmm (TPCDB) 0 FUNCTION: DB2 UDB, Self tuning memory manager, stmmCheckIfFreeMemoryIsEnoughForSizeIncrease, probe:690 MESSAGE : ZRC=0xFFFFEC49=-5047 SQL5047C Insufficient memory to execute this function. This APAR reduces the DB2 lock list size by committing transactions more frequently. The incremental commits allow DB2 to flush the lock list to allow other locks to occur. Having one large commit in large environments resulted in DB2 not having any room left in the lock list (capped by DB2's auto configuration setting at 20% of DB2 memory).
