APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Browsing messages on queues with IBM MQ Explorer increases
commit size memory each time the queue is browsed. This memory
is not released and continues to grow each time a queue is
    browsed or refreshed.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
All users of IBM MQ Explorer making use of the browse queue
    functionality.

    Platforms affected:
Linux on Power, Linux on S390, Linux on x86, Linux on x86-64,
    Linux on zSeries, Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When the browse dialog was closed the objects it contained were
not made eligible for garbage collection due to a circular
memory reference. Because the objects were never garbage
collected by the JVM each invocation of the browse dialog would
cause the memory usage of the IBM MQ Explorer to increase.

Problem conclusion

  • The circular reference has been removed, thereby making the
objects which back the browse dialog eligible for garbage
collection. This causes the memory used to be reduced when the
    JVM runs the garbage collector.
