Error description

  • After applying Fix Pack 4 for IBM Integration Bus V10, ESQL
    variables declared as EXTERNAL (User Defined Properties [UDP])
    at the ESQL SCHEMA level may not be resolved correctly at
    runtime.

    For example, assume an external namespace variable is declared
    at the schema level:

    DECLARE ns EXTERNAL NAMESPACE 'http://www.ibm.com/mynamespace1';

    When the 'ns' variable is resolved in an ESQL statement such as

    IF InputRoot.XMLNSC.ns:message.data1 IS NOT NULL THEN...
    ELSE... END IF;

    the following BIP2328E exception may be seen:

    BIP2328E: A value of SQL datatype 'NULL' encountered when
    datatype 'CHARACTER' expected.

Local fix

  • Either:
    * Remove the EXTERNAL option from the declaration
    * Move the declaration to the module level

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    ESQL variables declared as EXTERNAL (User Defined Properties, or
    UDPs) at the ESQL SCHEMA level, that are used to denote a
    namespace, may not be resolved correctly at runtime. The
    following BIP2328E exception may be seen:

    BIP2328E: A value of SQL datatype 'NULL' encountered when
    datatype 'CHARACTER' expected.

    The values for the schema external variables (UDPs) are
    maintained in lists indexed by schema. The wrong index value is
    being used during a look up.

    There are a number of resource name changes between WebSphere
    Message Broker and IBM Integration Bus Version 9.0. For details
