Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
All users of IBM Integration Bus V10.0 who attempt to set
nillable="true" for a complex element in a DFDL schema.

    Platforms affected:
    MultiPlatform

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
An attempt to set nillable="true" for a complex element in a
DFDL schema gives a CTDV1464E error. Users may want to do this
to preserve the positions of occurrences in a sparse array. This
was a documented restriction, which has now been removed.

There are a number of resource name changes between WebSphere
Message Broker and IBM Integration Bus Version 9.0. For details

Problem conclusion

  • The DFDL editor in the IIB Toolkit now displays the nillable
property for complex elements in edit mode. If set to "true",
the DFDL properties nilKind, nilValue and
nilValueDelimiterPolicy are also displayed. DFDL property
useNilForDefault is not displayed as this is for simple elements
only. Property nilKind must be "literalValue" and nilValue must
    be "%ES;".

The DFDL parser now checks if a complex element can be nil. If
so then it looks for the nil value of %ES; in accordance with
section 9 of the DFDL specification, including checking that the
nilValueDelimiterPolicy is obeyed. If the element is nil, an
element value event occurs with special value "nil".

The DFDL serializer now allows an element value event for a
complex element, but the value must be the special value "nil".
If such an event is received, no events are expected for child
elements. As the nil value is %ES; nothing is output to the data
stream, and the nilValueDelimiterPolicy is obeyed.

The restriction documented in the Knowledge Center,
    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSMKHH_10.0.0/com.ib
    m.etools.mft.doc/df00150_.htm, has now been removed.
