Error description

  • User recently migrated to 6.0.10 and now sees
    known issue in APAR IT03987: PCOM: SESSIONS HANG ON CITRIX
    XENAPP 6.5 ENVIRONMENT.

    IBM Personal Communications 6.0.5 and above may experience
    emulator sessions hang / freeze. There is no specific pattern
    that leads to the problem. However, this symptom is noticed on
    systems under heavy load, such as WTS environments and other
    virtualization environments such as Citrix Server environment,
    where large number of emulator sessions are opened.
    

Problem conclusion

  • APAR IC82520, fixed in Refresh Pack 6.0.5, has been found to be
    the root cause of the problem. The APAR fix contained code
    changes to address emulator session hang when multiple sessions
    (.bch) were opened using PCSBAT.EXE. The fix included changes to
    PCSWS.EXE, PCSWSAPI.DLL and PCSAPI32.DLL to check and kill a
    stand-alone PCSCM.EXE process during PCOMSTOP /ALL function.
    PCSWS.EXE is being changed to remove the fix from APAR IC82520
    as the code changes are not needed. Other  issues found with
    PCSBAT.EXE will be addressed in a separate APAR.
    Fix scheduled for PCOM 6.0.17 Refresh Pack and 12.0.0.1 Fix Pack
