APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Large number of storage device (i.e.SVC, Storwize, FlashSystem)
  bellwether events trigger continous running probes in IBM
  Spectrum Control v.5.2.8
  
  
  
  Investigation into the handling of event-triggered full
  probes and an increase of the individual event limit when a
  bellwether event is sent by the storage device.
  
  In addition the probe cool-down period at the TPC server
  requires adjustment.
  
  RECREATE STEPS:
  Upgrade to v.5.2.8 and monitor probe runs to applicable storage
  devices.

Problem summary

  * being run outside of the schedule.                           *

Problem conclusion

• The full probes based on bellwether events will be limited to
  twice daily.  Manual probes can be run between the scheduled
  probes if additional updates are needed.  The following two
  properties were set:
  
  NAPI.SVCEventThreshold = 500
  NAPI.SVCFullprobeCooldown = 720
  
  The fix for this APAR is targeted for the following maintenance
  package:

  Fixed in IBM Spectrum Control 5.2.9.
