Error description

• In the MMC GUI interface of the following products and
  components:
  - Tivoli Storage Manager for Database: Data Protection for
       Microsoft SQL Server
  - Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail: Data Protection for Microsoft
       Exchange Server
  - Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager on Windows
  
  a VSS diagnostic wizard can be run to validate Microsoft Windows
  VSS operations. This VSS diagnostic wizard is also automatically
  run at the completion of the configuration wizard, which is
  started after the initial install or subsequent upgrades to the
  application.
  
  This VSS diagnostic wizard can cause data loss if the source
  volumes selected in the production environment have snapshots on
  SVC space efficient target volumes.  The tests will create
  persistent and non-persistent snapshots and then delete them.
  These actions will cause the cascaded snapshots of the volumes
  selected in the diagnostics to be deleted in their entirety.

Local fix

• Skip the VSS diagnostics when running the configuration wizard.
  If the diagnostics are run, do not select production volumes
  which have SVC space-efficient targets.

Problem conclusion

• The Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail: Data Protection for
  Microsoft Exchange Server, Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases:

  warning message about possible data loss when using VSS
  Diagnostic Wizard.
