Error description

  • In an Oracle ASM environment on Linux, IBM Tivoli Storage
FlashCopy Manager might terminate the flashcopy backup with
    these messages:
FMM6247W No serial number has been found for device:
             <device name>
FMM9211E Additional support information: An exception was thrown
             at position: esd-scriptedsplitint.cpp(1065). (State No
disk objects to partition were identified, aborting.)

The errors are caused by a configuration issue. The
"Pre-Installation Checklist for IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy
Manager 4.1.x for UNIX", section 5.2.6, defines the following
    configuration requirement:

For multipathing to work properly the parameters
ORACLEASM_SCANORDER and ORACLEASM_SCANEXCLUDE need to be set in
    the ASMLib configuration.
For example exclude single paths from the scan by setting
ORACLEASM_SCANEXCLUDE=?sd? and force multipath devices by
    setting ORACLEASM_SCANORDER=?dm-*?.
For details see section ?Configuring the Scan Order? on this
    page:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/linux/multipath-097959.
    html

However, the explanation and user response of message FMM6247W
do not point to this condition and need to be changed
    accordingly.

    Data Protection Versions Affected:
IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager at version 4.1.1 and later
    versions

    Initial Impact: Low

Problem conclusion

  • The User Response of message FMM6247W will be enhanced to cover
    the specific situation.
Specifically, the following information will be added:

"No serial number has been found for the specified device.
Please ensure that it is available on your host.

In case you are using Oracle ASM on Linux and the backup fails
with this warning in the output,
ensure Oracle ASMlib is configured properly for multipathing.
    The parameters ORACLEASM_SCANORDER
and ORACLEASM_SCANEXCLUDE need to be configured properly
    according to your environment.
Look at the Pre-installation Checklist in the section
    "Requirements for Oracle" for details.
