IT12711: DEADLOCK CONDITION DURING A MULTI-SESSION LANFREE RESTORE

Error description

  • When performing a lanfree restore utilizing multiple sessions,
    it is possible that 2 of the sessions may attempt to
    simultaneously acquire the same input volume.  This results in a
    deadlock condition that can cause the restore operation to fail.
    When this condition occurs, the SHOW LOCKS command will show
    output similar to the following:
    
       LockDesc: Type=36002(as volume id), NameSpace=34843,
       SummMode=sLock, Key=''
         Holder: (smtb.c:7728 Thread 365164) Tsn=0:22860851,
         Mode=sLock
         Waiter: (asvolacq.c:3674 Thread 376529) Tsn=0:22860861,
         Mode=xLock
         Waiter: (asvolacq.c:1367 Thread 365164) Tsn=0:22860864,
         Mode=sLock
    
    As seen above, the deadlock condition occurs because one thread
    (365164) is attempting to acquire multiple shared locks on the
    volume id, but is unable to do so because another thread
    (376529) is attempting to acquire an exclusive lock on the same
    volume id.
