Error description

  • The infocenter information regarding changing log levels in
    rmserver.properties
contains several incorrect strings such as:
    '''''''''''''
    log.file.level
The debug level of the Tivoli Storage Productivity Center
for Replication server. You can specify one of these values:
            ALL
            FATAL*
            ERROR* <----
            WARNING* <----
            INFO*
            DEBUG_MIN*
            DEBUG_MID*
            DEBUG_MAXa
    '''''''''''''
Using such strings as per the infocenter does not effectively
    change the log level.
Instead, using such strings results in errors in the
    logs/CSM/csmTrace.log logs.
For instance, using "ERROR*" and "WARNING*" results in these
    errors:
    '''''''''''''
    2015-08-17 15:15:02.599+0000 MemMonitor RepMgr E LogBackend
convertLevelFromString ERROR: Invalid log level setting
    (WARNING*), staying at level ALL.
        [...]
    2015-08-17 15:26:27.388+0000 MemMonitor RepMgr E LogBackend
convertLevelFromString ERROR: Invalid log level setting
    (ERROR*), staying at level ALL.
    '''''''''''''
Moreover, due to the fact that changing the log level excludes
    valuable diagnostic
information, TPC-R development no longer supports or recommends
    changing the log
level at all and have requested such information to be removed
    from the infocenter
    via this DOC APAR.

    * The documentation was not accurate, and in fact TPC-R log *
    * levels should never be changed. This will remove the ability *
    * for support to be able to analyze problems if one occurs. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Leave the logging level as is. There is additional tracing *
    * mechanisms that support may request that customers add to *
    * the properties file but the current logging is sufficient *
    * for most errors that are encountered. The tracing amount *
    * currently done has been analyzed to not overwhelm the system *
    * and in fact has been trimmed down since earlier versions. *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • The knowledge center will be updated to remove these logging
    level settings
