Error description

  • The mounting of a snapshot by FlashCopy Manager to a Linux
system for offloaded backup to Tivoli Storage Manager can
show 2 different types of undesired behaviour:

    1. Depending on the amount of generic SCSI devices, the snapshot
mount can take a long time. 45 minutes have been reported.
    2. Any attached tape drives are disconnected from that host by
deletion of the associated /dev/sg... device, which leads
to the abort of any Tivoli Storage Manager backup / restore.

FlashCopy Manager does not report any error.

    Product versions affected: FlashCopy Manager
                               version 4.1 on Linux
               Initial impact: Medium
Additional keywords: FCM TSM XSF performance

Local fix

  • Avoid any Tivoli Storage Manager backup / restore activity on
the backup host while the mounting of the snapshot takes place.
