IT06770: HSM FOR WINDOWS STUB FILES ARE BACKED UP AS RESIDENT IF JOURNAL BASED BACKUP IS ENABLED

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Tivoli Storage Manager HSM for Windows plugin for Backup/Archive
  client erroneously retrieves the content of a migrated file from
  tape and a new version of the resident file is stored in the
  backup pool when the stub file should be stored instead.
  This occurs under the following conditions:
  - backup option skipmigrated is set to NO (default)
  - incremental backup with option journal based backup (JBB)
  enabled
  - HSM for Windows migrated files are stored on tape or
  sequential access disk.
  This problem is also described in APAR IT03531 for
  Backup/Archive client for Windows.

  Check HSM for Windows log file
  ..\hsmclient\listings\dsmc-retrieve-<date-time>.log
  for HSM for Winodws migrated files that are not expected to be
  retrieved for backup.

Local fix

• No local fix.
  Workaround until fix is applied:
  Stop TSM Journal Service and run incremental backups without
  the TSM Journal Service.
  Note: BA client option NOJOURNAL is not appropriate in this
  case.

Problem conclusion

• The problem has been fixed.
  Please note: One part of the fix is described in APAR IT03513
  WINDOWS CLIENT INCREMENTAL BACKUP WITH OPTION JBB STORES NEW
  VERSION OF RESIDENT FILE INSTEAD OF STUB and needs to be applied
  to TSM B/A client for Windows. The second part of the fix is in
  HSM for Windows plugin for BA client described in this APAR.
