IT05286: 100% CPU LOAD WHEN USING XSL TRANSFORMS IN LAZY PARSING MODE.

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When using XSL Transforms in Lazy Parsing mode in a mediation
under load a timing issue in the code can arise when 2 or more
threads try to access the same XSL transform at the same time.
This can result in 100% CPU usage which remains until the
    server is restarted.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of Business Process Manager v8.5 who use XSL Transforms
    under load

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When running under load an issue with the XSL Transforms can
cause the CPU to jump to 100% utilization and remain there until
    the server is recycled.

Problem conclusion

  • If two or more threads were using the same preparedTransform
instance at the same time, as might happen under load, then this
would cause an issue that would see the CPU utilization rise to
100%. To avoid this the use of preparedTransform was protected
to avoid two threads using it at the same time.
