Error description

  • In environments with ping disabled TPC is not accepting SMTP
    server for Alert notifications.
    Every attempt fails with error message:  NAA0200E: Error
    obtaining network address of specified server.

Problem summary

    * TPC 5.1.x or 5.2.x users trying to set Alert Notifications   *
    * through email/SNMP/OMNIbus in environments with disabled     *
    * ping requests                                                *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Many customers have ping disabled in their environments and  *
    * setting Alert Notifications through email/SNMP/OMNIbus will  *
    * display:                                                     *
    * NAA0200E Error obtaining network address of specified server *
    * server name                                                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply fix maintenance when available.                        *
    ****************************************************************
    

Problem conclusion

  • The problem was solved by replacing the ping requests that only
    validate if a host is up by creating a socket connection and by
    verifying if a listening port is active.  The fix for this APAR
    is targeted for the following maintenance packages:
