IO17838: TDS Server takes long time to start if PTA server is down

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• IBM Tivoli Directory Server will take a very long time to come
  up if it is configured to use pass-through authentication with
  attribute mapping and the remote PTA server is down or
  unreachable. This happens even if the user has specified a
  valid value for the "ibm-slapdPtaResultTimeout" parameter
  

Local fix

• No known workarounds.
  

Problem summary

• If attribute mapping is configured for pass-through
  authentication then ITDS performs a bind against the remote
  PTA server during start-up. The PTA code never passes the
  timeout value specified in the "ibm-slapdPtaResultTimeout"
  parameter in the LDAP handle. Hence the connect() system call
  is used in the blocking mode which waits for the system
  configured timeout value if the remote host is down or
  unreachable. If the system configured timeout for connect()
  call is large, the server start-up has to wait for that time
  period.
  
  The fix works by setting the user provided timeout value in the
  LDAP handle using the ldap_set_option() API.
