Error description
Customer reported their non-IBM USB handheld scanner flashes successfully on V6R2 4690 Classic terminals but fails to flash on the same level OS running Enhanced. They had modified their ADXUSBUF.dat file to cause the handheld scanner to flash to a newer firmware but noted that on Enhanced the scanner would never come online after a terminal reload. Once loaded, if they hotplugged the USB scanner it would successfully come online and continue to operate until the next time the lane was reloaded.
Local fix
Problem summary
Scanner device is unable to handle increase USB packet throughput provided by Enhanced OS4690 which resulted in the device hanging during flash process.
Problem conclusion
Code change made allowing the user to specify a logical name to disable the USB bandwidth reclamation feature utilized in OS4690 Enhanced terminals and reduce the USB packet throughput to the same level currently in OS4690 Classic. The logical name ADXURBNO is defined to reduce the throughput which enabled the scanner to be flashed. IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to hardware differences, logical name ADXURBNO has NO effect (will NOT reduce the USB traffic speed) on 4900-7x5 and 4810-35x machines.
