IJ12955: CRASH DURING COMPILATION IN ILGEN

Error description

• Error Message: A segmentation error/GPF is raised by the JIT
  compiler.

  Stack Trace: There is one known stack trace for the problem, but
  others are possible.

  TR::SymbolReferenceTable*, TR::IlGenRequest&)
  OMR::Compilation::compile()
  .
  This problem was introduced in Java 8 SR5 FP26.
  

Local fix

• The only workaround is excluding the problematic method(s) from
  compilation.
  

Problem summary

• The JVM pre-processes .class file bytecodes and modifies them to
  potentially include some internal bytecodes. These internal
  bytecodes are represented in multiple tables in the JVM and JIT
  compiler, and they need to match. One of these tables was
  modified without a corresponding change in the JIT compiler. The
  result is the JIT not being able to handle certain uncommon
  bytecodes, which can cause a crash during compilation.
