APAR status

Error description

  • During a failed Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments
    backup which has Application Protection enabled, the injected
    providers leveraged for processing may not be removed.  This can
    be verified by running ' vssadmin list providers' from the
    guest machine.  If the following is listed, then the provider is
    still registered:
    
    Provider name: 'TSM DP VMWare VSS Provider'
       Provider type: Software
       Provider Id: {5409e1e7-826d-4ab6-9836-af4ffddeb678}
       Version: 1.0
    
    To enable application protection the following line would be
    required in the dsm.opt file.
    include.vmtsmvss "Name of Virtual Machine"
    
    Versions Affected: 6.4.x Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual
    Environments with Application Protection enabled
    
    Initial Impact: Low

Local fix

  • A successful backup using Application Protection will remove the
    provider correctly
    

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: TSM Backup-Archive Client v6.4.x on Windows  *
    *                 running a BACKUP VM command with an          *
    *                 Exchange server in guest where the           *
    *                 data mover abnormally ends.                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The DeleteACMFiles.bat file does not    *
    *                      properly remove all entries from the    *
    *                      registry when run manually.  The        *
    *                      script does not report errors but the   *
    *                      'vssadmin list providers' command       *
    *                      shows the XR_VSS provider has not been  *
    *                      removed.                                *

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply fixing level when available. This      *
    *                 problem is currently projected to be fixed   *
    *                 in levels 6.4.2 and 7.1.1. Note that this    *
    *                 is subject to change at the discretion of    *
    *                 IBM.                                         *

Problem conclusion

  • The DeleteACMFiles.bat file was changed so all registry entries
    are removed.  Additional validation and messaging was added
