IC97770: HSM FOR WINDOWS RECALL SERVICE DOES NOT WORK FOR SOME STUB FILES

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The Tivoli Storage Manager HSM for Windows recall service,
    hsmservice.exe, does not recall some stub files, because the
    message buffer used for recall service communication is too
    small. The size of the buffer depends on the communication data,
    that is sent and received.
    
    Customer/L2 diagnostics (if applicable):
    Check if the HSM service trace file, hsmservice.log, contains
    the following message:

Local fix

  • (a) Fix per stub file: Retrieve concerned stub files using
     dsmclc.exe or dsmgui.exe.
    
    (b) The problem can be fixed for many stub files by configuring
    a short path for temporary files in dsmgui at Tools ->
    Preferences -> Path configuration -> Temporary files directory,
    like e.g. c:\hsm\.
