Error description

  • "RECONCILE VOLUME" shows the following errors for volumes
    already deleted on source server:

      ANR4355W RECONCILE VOLUMES: Volume TSMB.BFS.11111 not
         valid, source server missing corresponding entry for target
         server.
      ANR4362W RECONCILE VOLUMES: Invalid volume
         TSMB.BFS.11111 deleted from server TSMB for device class
         TSMB_DEVCLASS.

    This problem is different than APAR IC93989, in this case the
    volume is really deleted on source server but all the
    corresponding archive files were not marked for deletion on
    target server.
    Target server might suffer lack of storage pool space if
    RECONCILE is not done from time to time.

    Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: 6.1, 6.2 and 6.3 on
    all supported platforms

    Customer/L2 Diagnostics

    . Source server activity log shows:
       ANR1341I Scratch volume TSMB.BFS.11111 has been
             deleted from storage pool STG_REMOTE.

    . A "SHOW VIRTVOL TSMB" run just after the volume deletion shows
    the following for this volume:

     VIRTUAL VOLUME: 2928
      HL=ADSM/TSMB.BFS.11111,  LL=BFS.OBJ.1,  objId=855351746,
      firstObjId=855351746
      objSize=118502012,  numObjects=4,  when: 12:05:54 on
      01-03-2013
      Marked For Delete: TRUE, when: 13:03:24 on 21-08-2013
      HL=ADSM/TSMB.BFS.11111,  LL=BFS.OBJ.4,  objId=855351749,
      firstObjId=855351746
      objSize=120850038,  numObjects=0,  when: 12:05:57 on
      01-03-2013
      Marked For Delete: FALSE
      HL=ADSM/TSMB.BFS.11111,  LL=BFS.OBJ.3,  objId=855351748,
      firstObjId=855351746
      objSize=27557,  numObjects=0,  when: 12:05:57 on 01-03-2013
      Marked For Delete: FALSE
      HL=ADSM/TSMB.BFS.11111,  LL=BFS.OBJ.2,  objId=855351747,
      firstObjId=855351746
      objSize=38211116,  numObjects=0,  when: 12:05:56 on 01-03-2013
      Marked For Delete: TRUE, when: 13:03:24 on 21-08-2013

     This volume is made up of 4 archive files on target server TSMB
    and only two parts are "Marked For delete: TRUE" .
    If a "RECONCILE VOLUME" is run at this point there is no error,
    the volume is skipped if it has at least one "TRUE".
    Later if an "expire inventory" is done on target, the 2 "TRUE"
    parts are removed but the 2 last ones remain.

    A new "SHOW VIRTVOL TSMB" shows:

     VIRTUAL VOLUME: 2907
      HL=ADSM/TSMB.BFS.11111,  LL=BFS.OBJ.3,  objId=855351748,
      firstObjId=855351746
      objSize=27557,  numObjects=0,  when: 12:05:57 on 01-03-2013
      Marked For Delete: FALSE
      HL=ADSM/TSMB.BFS.11111,  LL=BFS.OBJ.4,  objId=855351749,
      firstObjId=855351746
      objSize=120850038,  numObjects=0,  when: 12:05:57 on
      01-03-2013
      Marked For Delete: FALSE

    Now there are 2 which are not marked for deletion BFS.OBJ.3
    and BFS.OBJ.4

    If a reconcile is done now, the volume appears in error in
    actlog and is set for deletion by the reconcile
    with message :

       ANR4355W RECONCILE VOLUMES: Volume TSMB.BFS.11111 not
         valid, source server missing corresponding entry for target
         server.
       ANR4362W RECONCILE VOLUMES: Invalid volume
         TSMB.BFS.11111 deleted from server TSMB for device class
         TSMB_DEVCLASS.

    After reconcile, a new "SHOW VIRTVOL TSMB" shows they are now
    correctly marked for deletion and they will be deleted by
    EXPIRATION done on target server:

     VIRTUAL VOLUME: 2907
      HL=ADSM/TSMB.BFS.11111,  LL=BFS.OBJ.3,  objId=855351748,
      firstObjId=855351746
      objSize=27557,  numObjects=2,  when: 12:05:57 on 01-03-2013
      Marked For Delete: TRUE, when: 13:53:17 on 22-08-2013
      HL=ADSM/TSMB.BFS.11111,  LL=BFS.OBJ.4,  objId=855351749,
      firstObjId=855351746
      objSize=120850038,  numObjects=0,  when: 12:05:57 on
      01-03-2013
      Marked For Delete: TRUE, when: 13:53:17 on 22-08-2013

    Initial Impact: Medium

    Additional Keywords:
    S2S  TSM zz61 zz62 zz63 server to server

Local fix

  • If space needs to be recovered on target server, run EXPIRE
    INVENTORY on target then RECONCILE VOLUME on source.
    Then run a new EXPIRE INVENTORY on target to remove the unneeded
    archive files.
