Error description

  • Restored files that were backed up from a Windows 2012
deduplicated volume might be inaccessible. A typical message is

The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable

The problem occurs because the deduplication reparse point is
restored along with the rest of the file data. In this case, if
the data is restored to a non-deduplicated disk, or Windows
deduplication is otherwise unable to utilize the reparse point,
the file will appear to be corrupted or unreadable.

This is a problem with restore, not backup. The backed up data
    is otherwise intact.
Note: This is Windows 2012 deduplication. Not Tivoli Storage
    Manager deduplication.
    Initial impact: Medium
    Platforms Affected: Windows 2012
    Additional Keywords:
    TSM 0x80070570

Local fix

  • Use the Microsoft Windows utility fsutil.exe to remove the
reparse point from the affected files:

       fsutil reparsepoint delete <filename>

where <filename> is the name of the affected file. Use double
quotation marks around the file name if the file name contains
    blank spaces.

    Examples:

       fsutil reparsepoint delete e:\data\income2013.txt
       fsutil reparsepoint delete "e:\data\billable hours.csv"

If fsutil.exe returns an "access denied" error, boot the
system into "Safe Mode", then try the fsutil.exe command again.

TSM incorrectly sets dedup reparse points after restore of a
file, deduplicated by native Windows 2012 deduplication.

Problem conclusion

  • TSM does not set Windows 2012 reparse tag any more.
