IC91899: FILES NOT BEING BACKED UP WHEN SOME APPLICATIONS SAVE TO A WATCHED SHARE ON A SERVER

If CDP or Fastback for Workstations is running on computer A and is protecting a folder shared out on the network, if a user on computer B uses certain applications such as Microsoft Word or Excel to create or modify files in the shared directory on computer A, the files might not get backed up. These applications write the data to a temporary file before it is renamed to the final filename. It is this rename over the network operation that is not begin handled properly by the CDP and Fastback for Workstations application. Tivoli Storage Manager Versions Affected: 3.1, 6.3 Customer/L2 Diagnostics: The following steps can be taken to see if this APAR applies. 1) Have CDP or Fastback for Workstations installed on a system(System A) that shares our a directory on a network 2) This shared directory is a watched directory for local back. 3) Open Microsoft Word on a client system(System B) and save a .doc file into the share(System A) 4) The file will not be backed up locally on System A.
