APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • On a windows 2003 system where the microsoft hotfix KB940349 has
    been installed  the Tivoli storage Manager backup and archive
    function returns the following error both via graphical
    interface or command line:
    ANS4056I Pre-requisite Microsoft Windows hotfix 'KB940349' is
    not installed.
    
    The message is seen in a popup on the graphical interface or on
    the command line outout.
    ie.
    
    Incremental backup of volume 'c:\io.sys'
    Preparing to backup 'c:' using 'VSS' snapshot.
    ANS4056I Pre-requisite Microsoft Windows hotfix 'KB940349' is
    not installed.
    Successful incremental backup of '\\tsm62dan\c$\IO.SYS'
    
    the backup is completed successfully despite the error.
    
    The error occurs only if the following option is present in the
    dsm.opt:
    snapshotproviderfs  VSS
    
    
    
    
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    The problem is caused by the fact that the hotfix is installed
    with the following name:
    KB940349-v3 as could be seen in the windows registry:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix
    
    The Tivoli Storage Manager code is unable to identify the hotfix
    as installed because it has the suffix -v3 in the name.
    Problem occurs only when using Tivoli Storage Manager Client
    6.3.x
    

Local fix

  • If the popup message is issued check  in Windows control panel
    if the KB940349-v3 is installed. If yes you could ignore the
    message otherwise install the KB.
