IC90096: IBM PUREAPPLICATION SYSTEMS CONSOLE DISPLAYS A NEGATIVE NUMBER FOR THE 'IN USE' VIRTUAL CPU COUNT WITHIN AN ENVIRONMENT PROFILE

APAR status

Error description

• After deploying a virtual system or virtual application pattern
  against an Environment Profile in an IBM PureApplication
  System, the user may observe a negative value in the
  "Environment limits" section, under the "In use" column of the
  the "Virtual CPU" row.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• If a virtual machine is reconfigured to increase the size of the
  virtual CPU count while the virtual machine is in STARTED
  state, the CPU in-use limit in the environment profile is not
  incremented to reflect the new size of the virtual CPU. This
  causes the CPU in-use limits to be incorrect.
  
  In some cases the CPU in-use limit may be negative as the value
  is decremented by the new size of the virtual CPU count when
  the virtual machine is stopped/destroyed. As a result of the
  incorrect CPU in-use limits, deployments exceeding the
  configured limits of the environment profile are not enforced
  correctly.
  

Problem conclusion

• A virtual machine state of STARTED will not prevent the
  virtual CPU in-use value in the environment limits of the
  environment profile from being updated when the virtual CPU size
  of a VM is changed.
  
  It is important to note that existing environment profiles which
  contain incorrect values for current CPU in-use limit are not
  corrected by applying this APAR fix.
  
  The following additional actions are needed:
  
    1) Discontinue use of any existing environmental profiles with
       the incorrect values.
  
    2) Create a new environment profile to replace it.
  
    3) Redeploy the instances using the new environment profile.
