IC89603: 6.4 CLIENT IS INSTALLABLE ON WINDOWS 2003

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The Windows Tivoli Storage Manager Client will successfully
  install on Windows 2003 (All versions) although it is not
  supported in 6.4.
  The future install packages for 6.4 should prevent installing
  the client on Windows 2003.
  The Windows 6.4 client install manual does not state that
  Windows 2003 was dropped from support
  in the "New for IBM Tivoli Storage Manager 6.4" section.
  The Windows 6.4 client install manual contains references for
  Windows 2003.
  Example:
  Under "Microsoft DFS file protection methods" it states:
  This feature applies to Windows Server 2003.
  Under the "Reanimate tombstone objects or restoring from a
  system state backup"
  section, it states:
  Important: Tombstone object reanimation is the only method
  available on the
  Windows Server 2003 domain controller.
  These and any other references to Windows 2003 should be
  removed.

Local fix

• Do not install the 6.4 client on Windows 2003.

Problem conclusion

• The problem has been fixed, TSM backup-archive client 6.4 can
  no longer be installed on Windows 2003.
  

Temporary fix

• A fix for this problem is currently targeted for interim fix
  package 6.4.0.1. Until the interim fix is actually available
  this information is subject to change at the discretion of
  IBM.
