Error description

  • If a filespace containing space-managed files from an
IBM Tivoli Storage Manager HSM for Windows is renamed
or deleted from the Tivoli Storage Manager server, and
hsmmonitor service is running reconciliation with parameter ALL
for filespaces then the orphan stub files associated to the
missing filespace are ignored. The orphan stubs are not recorded
    in the hsmmonitor-orphan.log file.

    TSM Versions Affected:
Tivoli Storage Manager HSM for Windows versions 5.5.0.0 -
    5.5.3.1, 6.1.0.0 - 6.1.5.1, 6.3.0.0 - 6.3.0.1, 6.4.0.0

    Customer/L2 diagnostics:
If reconciliation is performed with parameter ALL and one or
more filespaces on TSM server cannot be found a message is
printed in hsmmonitor.log for every orphan file.
    Example:
    HSMMONITOR (1498:1104) DsmReconcile::mf_fixObjectProblems
    13-01-23 20:55:19.009
     W: Errno-value: 0x02000005 (W: Archive not found)
        Originator: <No originator information>
        Message-number: ANS27407W
Message-text: A file space was not in the search list
    (file: '\\TESTUSER\J$\recontest\tf3'; file space: 'recontest';
    server:'server.name:1600'; user:'TESTUSER';).
Explanation: The file space name of this stub file was
not in the search list for processing.
System action: Reconcile is not able to identify and delete
obsolete objects in the missing file space.
User response: If reconcile should also delete obsolete
objects from this file space, add the file space for complete
    processing.

    Initial Impact:

    Additional Keywords:
    TSM HSM reconcile, orphan stubs

Local fix

  • 1) If the name of the deleted filespace is unknown, identify an
orphan stub and run 'dsmfileinfo -r <stub_name>', for this stub
it is possible to get the filespace name from the 'Backend
    archive' line.
    2) Once the filespace name is known, create an empty filespace
with the same name of the deleted filespace.
     - in the GUI: Tools -> Create New File Space...
     - in the CLI: run command 'dsmclc createfilespace -g
    <filespacename>'
    3) With the new empty filespace created rerun the reconcile for
the filespace. The orphan list file should be populated
    correctly.
    4) After the restore from the backup of all the orphans the
filespace can be deleted from the Tivoli Storage Manager server.
