Error description

  • The Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager Remote Mount function on
Windows will fail when the backup was created with multiple
components. In this context, "components" refers to the
    "components of the application environment.
    For example:
With multiple databases on the same FlashCopy Manager for
    Exchange backup command.
With multiple databases on the same FlashCopy Manager for
    Exchange backup command.
With multiple driver letters (Filesystems) on the same FlashCopy
Manager MMC and Base System Services backup comman
    Command examples using multiple "components":
    Exchange: tdpexcc backup db1,db2
    SQL: tdpsqlc backup db1,db1
    FS: fcmcli backup g:,s:
When a backup is created in this way, FlashCopy Manager on
Windows imports all volumes for all dbs, drives, etc .. in the
    set.
In the case of Exchange or SQL environments, empty folders are
created only and then subfolders for each volume used by the
    snapshotset are created.
For example, if the backup command was:
      "tdpexcc backup db1,db2"
and db1 and db2 both had the db and logs on separate volumes.
Then, the user issues this remote mount command:
      "tdpexcc mount backup db1=c:\mnt /remote....."
    the following would be seen:
    c:\mnt\vol1\ << db1 db volume contents
    c:\mnt\vol2\ << db1 log volume contents
    c:\mnt\vol3\ << db2 db volume contents
    c:\mnt\vol4\ << db2 log volume contents
In the case of a FileSystem backup, the operation will fail as
FlashCopy Manager cannot remote mount a Filesystem (FS) backup
that was created specifying multiple components in a single
    backup command.
For example, if the backup command was:
      fcmcli backup g:,t:
and then the following remote command was issued:
      fcmcli mount backup g:=p: /remote....
    or
      fcmcli mount backup g:=c:\mntpnt /remote....
    the operation would fail.
    Affected Releases:
Tivoli Storage Manage Client 6.3 and 6.4
    Other Affected Components:
Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager VSS Requestor 3.1 and 3.2
    Additional Keywords: None

Local fix

  • Do not create backups of multiple components in a single backup
    command. Instead backup components individually.

Problem conclusion

  • Changes were made in order to support mount and respective
unmount of remote backup on local server. At unmount the
application will mask entire set if no snapshots are exposed
    any more.
