Error description
Storage Resource Agents are correctly identified by hostname under Administrative Services - Data Sources - Data/Storage Resource Agents in the GUI, however the same agents are identified only by IP address in many default and customer-created asset reports. This inconsistency is due to a defect in the way that the server code creates the cached data that it generates reports from. The hostname information is entered into the agent cache by querying two different database tables, and the problem occurs when IP addresses are erroneously entered into cache fields that should contain hostnames when available. When Storage Resource Agents are initially deployed, the hostname information is entered into the TPCDB database based on DNS queries. If the hostname does not resolve in DNS, the IP address is entered. This is later updated with hostname information when probes are run against the Storage Resource Agent. RECREATE STEPS: Deploy Storage Resource Agents from a Tivoli Storage Productivity Center server then view possibly inconsistent hostname reporting across GUI functions. ________________________________________________________________ DB2 Version used for Server: N/A The defect is against component: 5608TPCS0 Server/Manager build/release (TPC): 4.2.2 Agent build/release (TPC): 4.2.2 Server/Manager (OS): All supported platforms Agent (OS): All supported platforms ________________________________________________________________ Problem as described by customer: Agent reports only display IP addresses for agents otherwise identified by hostname Initial customer impact (low/med/high): med
Local fix
A temporary workaround to this problem is to recycle the TPC Data server process and log out and back into the TPC GUI. This is a temporary problem and the display discrepancy will return in time.
