Error description

  • After starting the fix pack installation with "Load files
and apply fix pack" option, if a backup directory is manually
entered that doesn't already exist, the load of the fix pack
will complete but the apply phase fails with an AMQ4760 error.

The amqicsdn.txt file shows the installer failed to create
    a backup directory:
    Starting file backup
    Looking for: 'D:\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Maint_0.1'
    Looking for: 'D:\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Maint_0.1'
    (DoCsdBackup) ***Cannot create backup directory
    D:\IBM\WebSphere MQ\Maint_0.1' - one or more intermediate
directories do not exist (ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND (3))

Later attempts to install the fix pack from "Start Menu->
All Programs-> IBM WebSphere MQ-> Apply fix pack 7.1.0.X"
does not provide the option to manually enter the backup
directory. The choices are to accept the default, or
choose a directory that already exists.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
Users of WebSphere MQ version 7.1 trying to apply a fix pack by
    specifying the backup path manually

    Platforms affected:
    Windows

    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM SUMMARY:
When a backup path is entered manually in the fix pack installer
by the user where one or more intermediate directories of
the path does not already exist, then the installer fails as it
does not create the directory by itself.

The documentation needs to be modified in order to reflect that
the user should provide a backup path where all the intermediate
directories already exist and that the installer will fail if
the directories does not exist already.

Problem conclusion

  • The following parts of the documentation needs to be modified to
add that the backup path entered should be an already existing
directory and if any of the intermediate directory entered does
not already exist then the fix pack installer will fail.

    WebSphere MQ
    Migrating and upgrading
    Maintenance tasks
Applying and removing maintenance level upgrades by
    platform
Windows: Applying maintenance level upgrades on
    WebSphere MQ version 7.1
