APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The TSM 6.4 client supports Windows 2012, which introduced the
    ReFS filesystem. While the 6.4 client does support ReFS for
    most functions, there is an issue with a particular type
    of image restore.
    The command 'DSMC RESTORE IMAGE -INCREMENTAL' does not apply
    file system changes made after the image backup. Image restore
    of the ReFS volume completes successfully, but no file system
    changes made after the image backup are appliec.
    

Local fix

  • Instead of doing restore image with the 'incremental' option,
    perform the operation in two steps:
    1- restore image
    2- restore changes

    TSM Client does fail to correctly recognize the new file
    system ReFS. The file system was introduced in Windows 2012.
    The result of the incorrect ReFS identification is the failure
    to apply changes to a file system after image restore has been
    completed.
    

Problem conclusion

  • TSM client file system identification code was updated to
    correctly identify ReFS. After this code change TSM Client
    successfully completes the "incremental" part of
    'restore image -incremental' command.
    

Temporary fix

  • A fix for this problem is currently targeted for interim fix
    package 6.4.0.1. Until the interim fix is actually available
    this information is subject to change at the discretion of IBM.
