APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The customer added 2 additional compute nodes to cloud group
"Shared_2". The 2 compute nodes had not been used before. The
first compute node was added successfully. The second one went
into an "Attaching" status and never completes.

The customer found an error message in the system events:
"CWZIP1889W Failed to change the cloud group field of
 compute node ...".

Problem summary


    

  • The problem was caused by the code that was being used to add
and remove the compute nodes to cloud groups which had a
potential for database deadlocks.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • The code was updated to guard against deadlocks and verify that
each required transaction completes.
