Error description

  • The customer wanted to assign 4 1.65 TB disks to a virtual
machine. The fourth assignment failed. The error in the
tracelog files is:

The 'Attach Volume' operation has failed during the interaction
with VmWare
com.ibm.venture.vm.VirtualizationShimException: Task failed on
VMware server. reason: A specified parameter was not correct.

Local fix

  • 



Problem summary


    

  • The code that tracked the device unit numbers for the virtual
machine has an upper limit of 15 virtual disks. The code was
not filtering the number allowed by the correct device type.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • The code was updated to track only virtual disk unit numbers to
allow the correct amount of volumes to be added.
